How it Started

So I bought a 1981 300SD Mercedes-Benz
Price = $100 cash, and an old Laptop
Old Laptop Cost =$100
Total Cost =$200

Now when I bought it the mileage was a little over 350,000. But, from what I've been told for a Diesel of the W126 variety with the OM617 engine, 350,000 miles is just breaking in.

Upon buying her she had a few issues. Only 1 of the inside lights worked, one speaker didn't work, the back seats looked like someone had put their arm through the headrests, etc. etc. The big problem was actually that the engine had a huge case of shakes at idle. At first it seemed to go away as soon as you touched the gas peddle, which... it did... but it really just calmed down. After driving her for a few weeks I learned what happened. More on that later. Nonetheless she required a little maintenance.

This was my first car I ever bought. Before this I had done nothing more than an oil change, tire change and starter change in of my parents cars. I had never worked on a diesel and really knew nothing about cars.

The purpose of this site is to help others who are in the same situation as me, learning as we go. The World Wide Web (deh intrewebz) I have come to learn is an amazing place for old car help. There are hundreds if not thousands of intelligent people out there who have learned what to do and how to do it. I hope, that I can be of similar service.

This was and continues to be an amazing experience and so I invite you to learn with me about this wonderful car and how to fix, maintain, repair, and drive her.

Stay tuned!
